Enhancing Information Security for a Remote Workforce

More than a year into the pandemic, investment managers continue to weigh the benefits and challenges of a remote workforce. Along with concerns about productivity and communication, information security, particularly as it relates to client account information, remains central to the discussions.

Going into 2020, many asset managers had already moved their operations to cloud-based solutions to enhance accessibility and scalability, reduce cost, and meet compliance guidelines and regulations being enforced across our industry.

Today, as employees are accessing business data and cloud services from multiple endpoints, across multiple devices, from multiple locations, cloud security continues to be a top priority. While the accessibility of information across devices and locations enhances productivity, it also increases the opportunities for threat actors to exploit those various endpoints. As a result, many organizations are enhancing endpoint security to protect their people and data against threats.

Locking All Windows and Doors with MDR

A Managed Detection and Response (MDR) solution improves endpoint security by detecting and investing threats and responding to attempted cybersecurity breaches. It provides enhanced visibility to endpoints, such as laptops or desktops that are not connected to an office network or through a VPN, and improves incident response capabilities and threat detection monitoring by detecting threats that have evaded other controls.

In today’s remote environment, MDR is a critical component of information security, enabling firms to quickly identify potential threats, such as phishing emails or malware.

Today, in addition to continuing to adapt to a more dispersed workforce, many more investment managers are taking the opportunity to expand their reach globally, adding another layer of regulatory and security scrutiny. Gartner estimates that by 2025, 50% of organizations will be using MDR services for threat monitoring, detection, and response functions.

Balancing Information Security and Accessibility

Investment managers need not give up security for accessibility; both features are critical to their growth. MDR solutions provide monitoring around the clock and immediate threat notifications when potential threats are detected. By enhancing our information security with MDR, we are better able to protect investment managers and their data integrity so our clients can confidently conduct business from anywhere.
